I would have liked to photograph Bill Bernt of Aggipah River Trips, on a nice day in the summer, on the river. Mainly to show you just how beautiful his outdoor “office” is and for selfish reasons, to once again dip my toes into the waters of the Middle Fork of the Salmon.
As photographers we go out in all kinds of conditions and times. On this assignment, below zero temps in January backed up the Salmon River with ice jams. Mother Nature was not allowing the launching or navigation of a boat on the river. The photo above has Bill standing with his dog Zip at the top of the BLM Tower Rock boat ramp. Ice had backed up far, wide and high, as you can see. Check out those Ice blocks!
Bill has been working these rivers since 1970. I got to spend time with him and his wife Peg, learning about the business and their years of experience. The waters of these rivers run deep in the Bernt family with love, care and respect for the land. I enjoyed going into their shop to see their equipment and hear the stories of the river. Idaho’s rivers are bucket list trips that are often repeated again and again.
